Jake Hughes

PRODUCER / MORNING BRIEFING

Jake Hughes grew up in Houston, Texas.

He joined the Army in 2003 and trained as an M1A2 tank crewman. Based for six years at Fort Riley, Kansas and Fort Hood, Texas — he deployed twice to Iraq.

Later, he reclassified as a military broadcast journalist, which led to an assignment with the American Forces Network in Dongducheon, South Korea. He served as a drill sergeant at Fort Benning, Georgia — then later as an Operations NCO with The Old Guard, the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, at Fort Myer, Virginia.

Medically retired in 2016, Jake tried his hand at long-haul truck driving. Quickly deciding that wasn’t the lifestyle for him, he returned — with the help of the Department of Veterans Affairs and a number of private organizations — to work in broadcasting.

In his free time, Jake enjoys playing drums and video games and building Lego models.
