The epic face of Marvel Comics and faithful cameo contributor to Marvel movies since 1989, Stan Lee passed away this morning at age 95.

Stan Lee, born Stanley Martin Lieber, entered the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1942 shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Lee began working as a lineman, responsible for telegraph pole and communications equipment repair before his writing skills were realized and he moved to the Training Film Division. One of nine men to ever receive the military classification of "playwright," Lee served in the Army until 1945 before returning to the civilian comic world.

In March 2017, Lee was inducted into the Signal Corps Regimental Association with an honorary membership into the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment during a comic convention at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
