Need to Know VA Medical Center Information for Hurricane Florence

We’ve covered all of the insurance how-to’s and details, but more importantly and more pressing is the emergency assistance in place for veterans living in areas affected by Hurricane Florence. With about 1.5 million veterans in the path of impact and at least half of those enrolled in VA health care, here’s what you need to know:

South Carolina

  • Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center (Charleston)
    • Charleston VAMC is fully operational.
    • Hinesville, Savannah, Trident Annex, Goose Greek & Beaufort CBOCs are fully operational.
    • Myrtle Beach Outpatient Clinic is closed for patients September 17th (Monday) but employees are expected to report for work.


  • Hampton VA Medical Center
    • Hampton VAMC is fully operational & inpatient visitation has been reinstated.
    • All surgical procedures canceled September 11-15 will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
    • Outpatient clinics in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach & Albemarle open September 17th (Monday.)
  • Salem VA Medical Center
    • Fully operational.
  • Richmond VA Medical Center
    • The Hunter Holmes McGuire Richmond VAMC is fully operational.
    • Charlottesville, Fredericksburg and Emporia CBOCs are all open September 17th (Monday).

North Carolina

  • Durham VA Health Care System
    • Durham VAMC is fully operational
    • Community based outpatient clinics in Raleigh-Durham are fully operational.
    • Greenville HCC is fully operational, except for the dental clinic which remains closed through September 17th (Monday).
    • Morehead CBOC is closed through September 17th (Monday). Please note that it is not safe to return or travel to the Morehead area.
  • Salisbury VA Medical Center
    • Fully operational
  • Fayetteville VA Medical Center
    • Fayetteville VAMC opens at noon on September 17th (Monday), appointments for the 17th are cancelled
    • Fayetteville Rehab Clinc (FRC), Dialysis Center & Goldsboro CBOC are open and fully operational.
    • JAX Henderson, JAX Brynn Marr, JAX Josh Court, Sanford CBOC & Hamlet CBOC open September 18th (Tuesday) pending care site assessment.
    • Robeson CBOC & Wilmington HHC open September 19th (Wednesday) pending care site assessment.
    • Jacksonville IDES, CP Lejeune Hadnot Clinic & Brunswick CBOC open September 19th.
    • PWC Building is closed-- NVCC staff are to report to Ramsey Street location.
  • Asheville VA Medical Center
    • Charles George VAMC & all three clinics (Franklin, Hickory & Rutherford County) are all open and fully operational.
