The Department of Veterans Affairs' new program, "Solid Start," wants to proactively make sure transitioning veterans get just that — a solid start.

As part of the program, VA representatives will contact service members transitioning from active duty to veteran status three times within the first year of their transition — the first contact will come within the first 90 days of transition.

This gives VA the opportunity to offer personalized services to each new veteran regarding resources and benefits. The personalized style of the program means that — instead of an overwhelming laundry list of benefits and resources — VA representatives can provide more targeted information to assist in transitions.

Depending on preference, VA representatives can reach out via email, phone call, or text message. During each subsequent call, representatives can check in on transition progress and offer updated information and resources regarding everything from getting a home loan, to health care, to returning to work, to mental health support.
