Hilton Carter was just a teenager in 1945, but that didn't stop him from joining the Army Air Corps and becoming one of the original Tuskegee Airmen.

One of America's first black airmen, he passed away on May 6, 2020, at the age of 91.

After the conclusion of World War II, he joined the new Air Force and served as a staff sergeant.

Carter went on to serve as the Deputy Director of the Franklin County Board of Elections after settling down in Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Odessa Carter.
