Military Makeover

Navy and Marine Corps veteran Montel Williams is way more than just one of the most popular TV talk show hosts from the nineties. An advocate, author, and entrepreneur, Williams is returning to his television and military roots as the new host of Military Makeover airing on Lifetime Television.

But as we learned in our interview, he almost didn’t live to see it.

“In May I suffered a cerebellum hemorrhagic stroke … basically, a blood vessel broke in the back of my cerebellum and started pumping blood into the back of my cranium,” said Williams.

Ironically, a contributing factor may have been his fierce desire for physical fitness.  “I used to work out for 1-2 hours a day,” Williams explained.  “So, at the end of the day, a close friend of mine told me, ‘what good does it do, to have the best looking body in the morgue?’ And those words really stuck with me.”

With a new lease on life and what Wiliams calls a “99.999 percent” recovery, he is currently in production of episodes where he will change the lives of deserving veterans.

According to Williams, Military Makeover is a show that gives deserving military veterans a hand up, not a handout. “I'm excited because we're not just going to help rebuild homes— we're going to help rebuild their lives.”

In our interview with Montel he discusses:

  • From TV talk to Medical Marijuana
  • How he almost died
  • What living better means now
  • Military Makeover on Lifetime
  • What Americans should really do to honor veterans
