The Department of Defense announced that eligibility for Military OneSource will extend from its current 180 days to a full year after separation or retirement from military service. This applies to all service members and their families in accordance with the John S. National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2019.

If you didn’t know what the Military OneSource resources were, now is a great time to find out. Military OneSource provides free access to programs, tools and benefits designed to make military life easier both on active duty and after.

These are all designed specifically for the military community and include relocation assistance, tax support, financial planning and health and wellness coaching. Confidential non-medical counseling and specialty consultations for spouse employment, education, adoption, elder care and special needs are also available.

“Each person is unique, and so is each military-to-civilian transition,” A.T. Johnston, deputy assistant secretary of defense for military community and family policy said in a Department of Defense press release. “We want all Military OneSource’s resources to be there when someone needs them — whether it is a day, a week or many months after their transition to civilian life.”
