Punishment could include expulsion

March 12, 2018 - 1:35 pm

Five midshipmen will be disciplined for drug use, and four others for not telling the Naval Academy about it.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service has launched an administration disciplinary process against five midshipmen accused of using cocaine, ketamine, ecstacy and mushrooms.  Four others are accused of failing to report the drug use, according to USNA spokesman Crd. David McKinney.  The original accusations came last November when two classmates reported it.

The U.S. Navy and the Naval Academy have a zero tolerance policy for illegal drug use.

The nine midshipmen face court-martial, including demerits, loss of privileges, restriction, or even removal  from the Naval Academy according to USNA spokesperson, Cdr. David McKinney.
