The days of not being able to bring your favorite bourbon to a beach, pool, concert, or anywhere glass bottles aren't allowed will soon to be a thing of the past. And wouldn't you know it, we have a Marine to thank for this historic moment.

Merica Bourbon Founder/CEO Derek Sisson revealed during an appearance on the Morning Briefing radio show that he plans to offer boxed Merica in the near future, as seen in the prototype mock-up above.

"We've already started working on the patenting process on a boxed spirit that will be most likely camouflaged, as shocking as that may seem," the Recon Marine vet said with a laugh. "One you can take to festivals, boating, anywhere glass isn't permitted...y'know it just kinda fits along with what we're doing and our current demographic."

And that's just part of what sounds like a very busy next few months for Sisson and the Merica team. While the product is already available for purchase in several states and online, Sisson says his bourbon will soon be on Wal-Mart shelves across the country where it will eventually be joined by a new product, Merica Rye.

Long before he launched his own bourbon, Sisson learned the liquor industry from the inside as a distributor. He says he paid attention to what worked, and what didn't, and used that info to develop what would become Merica bourbon, all while building connections in the business and veteran worlds.

Things seem to be going very well for Sisson, whose profile has risen with several recent national media appearances including Fox & Friends. The former Recon Marine says one important lesson he's learned and would like to pass on to his fellow entrepreneurs, especially the veterans, is that when things are going your way, it's not time to ease off the throttle.

"When things are all rosey, I think that's the time you need to put your foot down and say 'what can I be doing better' right?" Sisson said. "Can I be doing box innovation (or) can I be doing this? I don't think there's any time to be stagnant as an entrepreneur."

Below, you can hear the full wide-ranging interview with Sisson that touches on entrepreneurship advice, the effect of tariffs on the liquor industry, and of course boxed bourbon.
