Friday August 4 was  International Beer Day

Started in California in 2008, it has 3 goals:

  • To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer.
  • To celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer.
  • To unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day

So here's 4 beer brands that will not only satisfy your thirst, but also make you feel more American.

And, like our great nation, these brews were founded by veterans:

HonorBrewingCompany

Honor Brewing Company Chantilly, VA.  Founded by guys with close military ties, including an Army veteran and a Gold Star son, everything about this beer is truly patriotic.  Grab a six and you'll notice a logo of boots and dog tags, but check out the side of the package and you'll see just how much they care. Every package has the name and bio of a service member who has made the ultimate sacrifice. You can even go on their website and nominate a loved one to have a tribute package made in their honor. We reccomend the Golden Ale on a hot summer day, and raising that beer high with a cheers and a hell yeah!

14th Star Brewing Company St Albans, VT – The business plan for 14th Star Brewery was originally drafted on the back of a battle notebook by Steve Gagner while serving our country on the battlefields of Afghanistan. Upon returning home to Vermont from deployment founders, Steve and Matt Kehaya, worked to refine their plans to make their dream of 14th Star Brewing Company a reality in 2012.

Now they brew 16 different beers that kick as much ass as they do.  Check out Follow Me IPA and Valor Ale

Veterans United Craft Brewery Jacksonville, FL  Of course Sailors love beer! And when former Navy pilot, Ron Gamble's wife gave him a home brewing kit- his beer took flight. Now they have a full staff of veterans and brew over a dozen incredible styles.  Check out their signature Raging Blonde .. it's proof they have more fun.

Full Tilt Brewing Baltimore, MD  Full Tilt Brewing is co-owned by cousins that are, a Navy veteran and a former DoD employee. They started home brewing in 2008 and then set up shop in Baltimore, where they are fastly becoming a favorite all over the mid Atlantic region.  Their killer artwork, is only rivaled by their Memorial Pilsner (served with Maryland crabs) and the Galacticat IPA.
