Florida veterans can now access doctors — anytime from anywhere

A Clinical Contact Center in Florida is helping veterans in rural areas access their healthcare benefits — via phone and video chat. 

The Department of Veterans Affairs Sunshine Healthcare Network, or VISN 8, rolled out its Clinical Contact Center at 1-877-741-3400 to help veterans with limited access to care facilities use their earned healthcare benefits. The VISN 8 Clinical Contact Center is operational 24/7 and available to veterans who receive care in network in Florida, South Georgia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 

 If veterans are unable to see their primary care provider, or if they simply prefer a cost-effective alternative to emergency rooms and urgent care centers, they can call the toll-free line. They can also call on holidays and with any non-emergency medical conditions. Services include general administrative support, nurse advice and triage, virtual visits with a doctor or nurse practitioner, and more. Physicians can even prescribe and mail medications.

Beyond the hotline, the Clinical Contact Center also offers a VA Video Connect option. The secure video app is available for Android, iOS, and Windows devices and connects veterans with their health care team from anywhere. The system is encrypted to ensure privacy. 

And it's free.

Veterans who are not VISN 8 patients are also welcome to use the hotline — VA staff will help them determine the best options for treatment.
