Vermont veteran's 'Trump 2020' flag burned, Eric Trump responds

November 30, 2018 - 7:31 am

An Afghanistan veteran from Burlington, Vermont found his "Trump 2020" flag burned on his porch last Sunday morning. Once the story made its way to Eric Trump, the president's son reached out.

Gus Klein and his wife Annmarie were asleep inside when the flag was removed from his front lawn, burned, and left on the porch.

Both Klein and his wife agreed that the act demonstrates how tense the country's current political state is.

“I’m going to be 58 years old, and I’ve never seen something like this before," Klein told NECN. "I’ve always lived in this area.”

When Eric Trump heard about the Klein's story, he reached out to the couple and asked for an address so a replacement flag could be sent.

The Vermont Democratic party made several statements condemning the act.

“Difference of thought is what makes us average Americans. But it’s the level of respect with which we treat that difference that makes us Vermonters – that makes us unique,” party spokesman Christopher Di Mezzo wrote in a statement to NECN.
