Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring veterans. This week’s employer is J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

One of the oldest financial institutions in the United States, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.’s history dates back over 200 years. Today, they are a leading global financial services firm with assets of $2.6 trillion and a presence in over 100 markets.

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. cofounded the Veteran Jobs Mission in 2011. The then coalition of 11 companies aimed to hire 100,000 veterans by 2020. As of March 2018, the coalition, now made up of over 235 companies, has hired 455,000 veterans. Veteran Jobs Mission is now the leading private-sector solution addressing veteran unemployment and aims to hire one million veterans.

To do its part, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. has hired more than 13,000 veterans since the coalition’s founding in 2011. And employment is only part of the mission. J.P. Morgan’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs focuses on three strategic pillars — employment, small business and strategic initiatives and acclimation and development. The firm has invested $45 million toward programs and initiatives to meet these strategic goals.

One such program is the J.P. Morgan Military Veteran Internship Program. This nine-week internship offers veterans the opportunity to work on projects that accentuate military skills and develop financial service skills. Outside of this internship program, the firm has graduated 7,700 veterans from 15,500 free career courses offered as part of the Veterans Career Transition Program.

“Hiring Veterans and military spouses is the right thing to do because they have the skills and experience to succeed and add value to JPMorgan Chase,” said Ross Brown, director of MIlitary and Veterans Affairs.

The company has been recognized as a 2018 Military Times Best for Vets employer and a 2016 Top 100 Military Friendly Employer.
