Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer is Enterprise Holdings.

Enterprise Holdings is the largest car rental company in the world as measured by revenue and fleet. In FY2017, Enterprise Holdings and its affiliate generated $22.3 billion in revenue and operated nearly 1.9 million vehicles in more than 90 countries. This level of revenue generation puts Enterprise Holdings at the top of the travel industry, surpassing all other rental car companies and most airlines, cruise lines and hotels.

Enterprise Holdings has been a military supporter since day one. In 1957, World War II Navy veteran Jack Taylor founded and named Enterprise after the aircraft carrier on which he served — the USS Enterprise. Along with the company’s name, Taylor also carried over other values learned during his time in the military — integrity, hard work, team spirit and simply doing the right thing. Today, the Taylor family still owns Enterprise and is committed to maintaining these values.

For this, Enterprise has received multiple awards and recognition. G.I. Jobs magazine named Enterprise a Military Friendly Employer for the past four years, and the Military Times named the company a “Best for Vets: Employer”.

“We believe there’s no better way to thank our veterans and reservists than to give them new opportunities to lead and serve,” said Pam Nicholson, president and CEO of Enterprise Holdings. “Their leadership abilities transpire into the workplace and allow them to consistently provide superior customer service every day.”

As a member of the Veteran Jobs Mission coalition, Enterprise is committed to hiring veterans and currently employs a U.S. workforce that is 10 percent veterans. However, hiring is only a part of Enterprise’s military support efforts. The company focuses on three key areas — recruitment and hiring, local operations and community relations.

Enterprise offers a management training program that allows employees (including transitioning military personnel) to learn about customer service, sales and marketing, finance, and operations. Many open positions exist nationwide, including on the 65-plus military installations Enterprise serves, making it easier for military personnel and spouses to build careers.
