Veteran retention, reservist benefits, and military family programs — this week's employer has it all

Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer is Booz Allen Hamilton.

Booz Allen is a global firm of 24,225 employees working to develop solutions in consulting, analytics, digital, engineering, and cyber with industries ranging from defense to health to energy to international development — and one-third of those employees are veterans, reservists, or military family members.

"Our military-connected colleagues represent over a third of our employees — over 8,000 employees at Booz Allen have served, continue to serve, or are family of those who have served," said Andrea Inserra, senior vice president and chair of Booz Allen's veteran agenda. "We are extremely proud of that continuing heritage, and so my role as the chair of the agenda is to ensure that we do everything in our power to make sure we are the best place to hire military-connected employees and one of the best places to retain that talent that we are so fortunate to have."

Booz Allen was founded by a veteran and has continuously supported the Department of Defense since 1940. Today, they offer best-in-class reservist benefits, support for military spouse employees, and impactful nonprofit partnerships for the military family community.

"The biggest concern for some is translating," Inserra said of Booz Allen's transitioning veteran resources. "It can often feel like it's completely different. I think for those who have served 4 years, 8 years, or 20 years - there is that fear about how will the outside market understand the value that I bring. We think it's truly important to help in that translation."

Through its Veteran Recruiting Center of Excellence, Booz Allen engages with service members at job fairs and transition assistance programs. Booz Allen also partners with Student Veterans of America and USO Metro to help transitioning service members find meaningful employment.
