Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer is Bob Evans.

For more than 70 years, Bob Evans Farms, Inc. has worked to get quick-to-table, farm-fresh food in grocery stores all over the country. Based in Columbus, Ohio, Bob Evans Farms is a leading producer and distributor of refrigerated potato, pasta, and vegetable-based side dishes, pork sausage, and a variety of refrigerated and frozen food items. The company was founded by a veteran and still works to support the veteran community.

"Bob Evans — many people don't know — was a real person and was a veteran. He always had a strong feeling about supporting veterans," said Mike Townsley, Bob Evans Farms CEO. "It's been in our DNA for a long time."

Bob Evans offers several different programs for veterans including Our Farm Salute and Heroes to CEOs.

Our Farm Salutes, created in 2016, supports service members, veterans, and family members through volunteerism, strategic partnership, grant opportunities, awareness, and donations. And Heroes to CEOs, a contest hosted in partnership with Bunker Labs, awards a $30,000 grant to support a winning veteran's future entrepreneurial endeavors.

"Over the past three years of this program, we’ve found that veteran entrepreneurs face unique challenges with starting a business, including a lack of funding options,” Townsley said. “This year, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with Daymond John and join forces with Bunker Labs to create a distinct and beneficial opportunity for veteran entrepreneurs.”

This year's Heroes to CEOs three finalists will present business concepts at a pitching event in New York City on April 25.
