Military retirees and survivors will see a 1.6 percent increase in cost of living payments starting on Jan. 1, 2020.

The increase will apply to most military retirees as well as survivors of members who died on active or inactive duty, or survivors of military retirees who participated in the Survivor Benefit Plan.

Eligible survivors will also see an increase in their Special Survivor Indemnity Allowance that reflects the 1.6 percent COLA increase.

Cost of living adjustments are calculated based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers.

Not all retirees will receive the same adjustment. Retirees who retired during calendar year 2019, and all military retirees who retired under the REDUX retirement system will receive a slightly different annual cost of living adjustment.
