Looks like Dan Crenshaw got the last laugh after all

“It’s been an interesting 72-hours for us.”

That’s how Dan Crenshaw, a retired Navy SEAL who won his bid to Congress, opened up his victory speech while offering a chuckle Tuesday night.

He continued, “People ask us, ‘are you offended?’” a reference to a joke made by Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson about Crenshaw’s eye-patch.

“Well, I’m from the SEAL teams, we don’t really get offended. But we also like it when comedians are actually funny.”

The Republican political new-comer offered a clear shot across the bow of Davidson, who joked during “Weekend Update” that Crenshaw looked more like “a hit man in a porno movie.”

Crenshaw lost his eye while serving in Afghanistan in 2012 on his third deployment after an IED blast in Helmand province hit his vehicle. His right eye had been completely destroyed, and his left eye was injured.

Opinion: Pete Davidson is an ass: The better way to joke with Dan Crenshaw

The joke received some backlash online, and Davidson has been radio silent. But Crenshaw said SNL has since reached out to him to offer a private apology, telling him the joke was not planned. The former SEAL seems to have accepted the apology and has moved on…to winning an election.

“I don’t want to be part of the problem,” he told ABC 13. “That’s why I don’t want to be calling for firing people and demanding apologies.”

But Crenshaw seems to have gotten the last laugh beating out Democrat Todd Litton with 53 percent of the vote. And on Wednesday morning, he told Fox and Friends that the extra media attention might have ushered him in crossing the finish line.

“I have to imagine that it probably helped,” said Crenshaw.

After all, winning is the best revenge.
