Mosul Film

Our guest on The CV Report is Dan Gabriel, former CIA Officer and now director of the new documentary film, "Mosul".

The movie is the story of Iraqi journalist Ali Maula, who follows 100,000 Iraqi soldiers and militiamen into the heart of darkness, where they fight to reclaim the city of Mosul from the evil grip of ISIS.

"The best way to tell the story of men in combat is to get as close to the combat as possible," explained Gabriel. "When our crew spent a day in the Old City of Mosul with a unit of the Golden Division—Iraq’s elite counterterrorism force—they were right in the middle of the action. They moved house-to-house with the Iraqi operators as they blasted ISIS targets with point-blank machine gun fire."

Gabriel explained how the brave Iraqi film crews captured the battle against ISIS from several sides of the city and watched their eventual defeat. He also described the diverse characters in the film, including a captured ISIS fighter.

The battle may be finished but the conflict is far from over.

And Gabriel's predictions about the fate of the city are both fascinating and ominous.

Mosul premiered at the Cleveland Film Festival earlier this Spring and is now available for digital download on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon as well as cable and Internet Video On Demand.  It will be coming to Netflix and Hulu in Fall 2019.
