As if you needed an excuse to drink beer, why not drink and support your fellow service members? From the east to the west coast, here’s a list of veteran-owned breweries that you need to know about (and visit).

Backward Flag Brewing Co.

Located in Forked River, N.J., Backward Flag Brewing Co. was created by Army veteran Torie Fisher. What started as a two-barrel brewing system has grown to distribute craft beer in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The name is a nod to flags soldiers wear on their uniform.

Ono Brewing Company

Described as a “little oasis in the middle of northern Virginia,” Ono Brewing is the brainchild of Army veteran Scott Hoffman and his wife Cyndi. With names like “Gone Fishin',” and “Riptide,” you’ll be sure to get a little taste of Hawaii on the east coast.

Red Leg Brewing Co

Artillery men and women unite! Red Leg Brewery in Colorado Springs gets its name from the Civil War era uniforms soldiers wore to denote their location in battle. "Devil Dog," "Blue Nose" and "Howitzer" are all brew names service members will recognize. In additon to their taproom, Red Leg features a different foot truck for evening snacking.

Honor Brewing Company

“Light of Sight Lager” definitely has military ties. That’s just one of the brews you’ll find at Honor Brewing Company. The packaging also features the names of different service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Veterans United Craft Brewery

Headquartered in Jacksonville, Fl., Navy veteran Ron Gamble turned a brewing hobby into a business with Veterans United Craft Brewery. In addition to finding their beer selection at your local ABC or Winn-Dixie, you can also visit their taproom and take home a keg of your favorite brew.

Railhouse Brewery

Founded by a Navy and Army veteran, Railhouse in Aberdeen, N.C., has a unique "Beer Forward Wall" where you can purchase a beer in advance and leave a note behind for a service member to enjoy it. Railhouse Brewery opened in 2009 near none other than Fort Bragg, so it's not a wonder that a majority of the staff are veterans and military-affiliated personnel.

Full Tilt Brewery

Head to Baltimore, Md. and visits Full Tilt for Trivia Tuesdays and Crab Feasts Sundays. If not just for the beer, the burgers and bacon alone will get you in the door. They even have a membership club where you can enjoy discounts and points towards samples and merchandise.

Service Brewing Company

Based in Savannah, Ga., West Point graduate Kevin Ryan, along with Meredith Sutton, launched Service Brewing Company in 2014 with the help of tons of investors who are also veterans. Their tasting room features a "How Do You Serve?" chalkboard that encourages visitors to share their own stories of service. Also, they have two cats named Blackhawk and Chinook--what more do you need to know?

Talea Brewing Company

Created by Tara Hankinson and LeAnn Darlane, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Talea boasts an "approachable, lifestyle-focused voice to beer." Talea's beers feature a fun and easygoing can design with tropical and fruity notes that will make even the most "I'm not a beer person" interested in taking a sip.
