What keeps Air Force veteran Lloyd Black 91-years-young?

Exercising three times a week at an Alabama gym in his denim overalls.

Black was recently named Member of the Month at Anytime Fitness in Semmes, Alabama.

In a form highlighting his achievements, Black wrote that his favorite exercise machine is the treadmill. He also had some advice for anyone who is thinking about beginning a fitness program.

“Go ahead,” he wrote. “Get started.”

In a post on the gym’s Facebook page, gym General Manager Ashley Seaman wrote that they have “seen nothing but motivation and inspiration from him since he started.”

“He says he is 91 years young and brags about how much his workout routine has helped him in his daily routines,” the post reads. “Seeing someone like him inspires others to keep it up and incorporate fitness into their life.”

Seaman said Black and his wife joined the facility last year.

“He’s like the light of your day,” she told Connecting Vets.

When Black first started, he could only spend about 10 minutes on the treadmill. He’s now up to 30 minutes, Seaman said.

“You would never know he’s 91,” she said.

Seaman said Black also does leg presses and uses some of the gym’s upper body machines.

“We hope to have him many more years to come,” she said.

Following his stint in the Air Force, Black taught world history before becoming a school administrator at several Mobile, Alabama area schools.

And just why does Black wear denim overalls when he works out?

“I don’t have any hips, and I can’t keep my pants up,” he told news website
